Bylaws
A bylaw is a law enacted by the municipal council to govern various aspects of community life. Bylaws are prepared when:
- The council delegates responsibility.
- Residents are required or permitted to perform or abstain from an action under section 8 of The Municipalities Act.
- Provincial or federal legislation requires the matter to be addressed by bylaw.
The RM of Caledonia has several bylaws to maintain the community’s residential character and ensure the safety and comfort of its residents. Below is a “short list” of guidelines/bylaws covering the most common situations in our community.
The RM of Caledonia appoints a Bylaw Enforcement Officer to investigate infractions. This includes (but is not limited to) issuing tickets for weed control, nuisance concerns, and dog violations.

Policies
A policy means an outward-facing statement which sets standards for the performance of the RM as a whole and guidelines for how initiatives and activities will be carried out. A policy shall be prepared when:
- Residents are being informed of the RM’s position on a matter;
- The council sets the guidelines for the level and manner of service the RM will perform related to a specific issue; and
- When managing a recurrent outward-facing issue or interactions between the RM and the public or outside entities.
